Hi,

There are two possible missions here, one is can the iPod he has be made to work again, the second is can an iPod that resembles his on the outside be made to without his knowing that it has been rebuilt with his known exterior.

I've done this a few times. One for a fellow in Montana whose wife had give him an iPod a years earlier and died. He wanted to restore it to working and then keep it as a me mento. That I was able to do by replacing the failed hard drive, total cost $80.

In another case a family's home burned down destroying most of the contents and badly damaging the teenage boy's iPod. As it happens the son was a kind, polite, socially and intellectually engaged foster son and a friend of the family sent me their iPod along with the near destroyed son's iPod to restore one working version between that used the Son's engraved backplate as a point of ownership continuity. There wasn't enough working between both of them to make one good working version. A couple of the parts had failed in both but I had them on hand here and was able to build a working unit to gift back to him. The cost of the double tear down and build with the added parts and new battery was $105

In Southern California a 17 year died in a car crash. Her iPod was with her at the time and a big part of her life on a daily basis. The family wanted it restored to working so it could be given to her younger brother later in his life when he was able to understand the sentimentality. In there case it needed a new LCD and hard drive. I was able to restore the songs she had on the original hard drive to the new one so it would go to brother with him being able hear and experience what was current in life at that moment. The cost of that was $143

I will likely have to replace several parts in your son's iPod but I think we can use clever slight of hand and he will never know about the mistake.

Here is more information on water cases I've handled here.

Here is the degree of intensity I exhibit at my work

It should take 5 stamps on a padded envelope or a plastic bubble mailer to get it from there to here with a total "out of your hand and back into your hand again" experience of 7 maybe 8 days depending on where a Sunday falls.

If you want it sent back to you using Priority Mail add $5.

If you want your iPod sent back using Priority Mail and Insured add $11

BE CERTAIN TO INCLUDE, your name, address, phone number and email address

Send it along with a check for $40 (or you can PayPal in the funds once it arrives) to the address below. If there is an unexpected discovery and somehow additional parts are required, I'll contact you by email and we will decide together if it's cost effective. If you move forward withthe repair you can PayPal in the money for the parts, I'll know more once it's "in the operating theatre".

More on my fees is here. The $40 labor fee always includes return shipping (except international where it's $15 more and they are sent back Global; Priority Air) and you get a refund of $20 if somehow I can't or it's impractical to do the repair.
