These are a few my recent iPod repair experiences.

David Taylor lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota
but the families of his parents both came from Sonoma County. After their retirement and to help their aging folks his parents moved back here. He came back to visit them for Christmas 2007 and brought his iPod with him. He discovered there was someone in town that fixed ipods and gave me a call to set up and appointment to get the battery replaced in his 4th gen Black and White 20GB. I needed it for an hour and he came back to get it working perfectly. Cost for him $15 for the battery and $40 labor.

Fixed - Total cost..$55.

Robert Dillon lives in Salinas California in the Central Valley
He got a hold of me to replace the battery in his 3rd gen iPod. We discussed how he should send it in on the phone and I sent a follow up email summarizing the conversation we just had. It arrived with a money order for $57 on January 11th 2008 and the battery was replaced late that afternoon. His repaired ipod was sent back the next day. The battery was $17 and labor with return shipping was $40

Fixed - Total cost $57.

Albert Lugo called locally from here in Santa Rosa California
and ran down the symptoms his 5th Gen Video iPod had. He described the battery not holding and presenting a charge though it had been connected for hours to a charging system and that his scroll wheel wasn't working.

To me these pretty clearly indicate a water exposure to the logic board. When water moves through the scroll wheel area it usually collects in the upper right corner of the logic board which is the area that all scroll wheel function control resides.

In his case i imagined that he tipped the iPod vertically so the water then collected at the battery connection. The repairs for him would have exceeded the value of the device when fixed so I advised him not to bother fixing it. He didn't, he got his iPod back with a $20 refund. Naturally he had no recollection of the water exposure occurance, yet here are the shots.
