These are a few my recent iPod repair experiences.
Hector Favela called from Escondido California
His wife Angela dropped her 5th Geberation Video iPod one time too many he went on to describe the symptoms. They were classic for a hard drive failure.
He sent it in to have me replace the drive. He neglected to tell me that he "had tried to repair it" himself so it arrived a few days later and a few parts missing.
I went through and checked things, replaced the missing parts and determined it was just the drive only that was the problem and replaced it.
Good as New, the 30GB drive was $60 and labor with return shipping was $40, a perfect working iPod for $100
Fixed - Total cost..$100.

"My son left his ipod video out in the rain for 2 days, he doesn't even know that he did. We haven't told him because his Grandmother gave it to him and past away last Thanksgiving so we don't want to upset him if there's a chance it can be repaired. He has Tourettes Syndrome and the stress of it being ruined might be too much for him to bear.
He's nine and she thinks a bit young for the Nano 3rd Gen.
The iPod went into the laundry and through the washing machine. She wasn't sure it had any hope.
I opened it up and was able to get the device back to a working state except for the LCD, it kept flashing... as though the backlight voltage hit a high presented the lit back light and then went dark again. Then would come back to light and go dark... several times a second.
I took the LCD out and discovered three of the traces on the ribbon connection had become corroded leading to intermit behavior. I wasn't able to clean the leads, they had basically worn away so I had to replace the LCD.
With a new screen in place, it worked perfectly.
The LCD was $33 and the labor/return shipping was $40
Fixed - Total cost..$73.

Alex Kalter lives in Boca Raton, Florida
and dropped his iPod Touch in a swimming pool of water... briefly.. but enough to stop his iPod from working.
Naturally, he was more than a little freaked out, the Touch was/is the center of his life.
I spent a bit of time on the phone with both of parents *and* Alex. His father sent it in from work along two $20 bills to have me bring it back to a full life.
It required no replacement parts and was made to work flawlessly.
